When it comes to successfully running a fence company there’s only a few skills that are needed.
Get them right and you will have more work than you could ever need.
Get them wrong and you will struggle greatly.
Before starting a fence company you should be willing and able to do the following.
1. Answer your phone.
This is ridiculous that I would even mention this.
However, have you ever tried to hire someone to do work at your house? Did they answer the phone? Probably not.
I can’t tell you how many jobs we book every year simply because no one else cared to answer their phone.
2. Respond to emails.
This is the same as answering the phone. No one does it so if you do you have a great chance at landing that job.
3. Show up when scheduled.
Again, this is “How to run a business 101”.
I don’t know what’s going on but out of 20 companies only 2 have showed up when they were scheduled.
The rest were either an hour or more late or just never showed up.
Chances are that if you just show up you will be 1 of 3 companies that will be getting that job.
4. Do what you say.
Again, no one does this!
80% of the companies just tell the customer whatever they want to hear just to book the job.
That’s a great business model if you want to be successful for 6 months.
But if you’re looking to have a successful career you must do everything you say. It’s just the right thing to do.
Final conclusion
If you just treat everyone how you want to be treated you will be just fine.
Just think what will be happening in another 10 years when some of the good companies start to retire or hand the business to their kids.
At that point maybe 5-10% of the companies will actually do these basics and get most of the jobs.
